“I scored a hat-trick against them last season”: Leandro Trossard told Mikel Arteta the only way to beat Liverpool at Anfield

Leandro Trossard urged his Arsenal teammates to believe that now is the right time to end their 11-year wait to win at Anfield.

The Gunners travel to Liverpool on Saturday for an important title challenge.

Arsenal are currently top of the table, but only one point ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s team.

The Gunners have a poor record at Anfield and last won the Premier League there in 2012, when current manager Mikel Arteta was still in charge.

But Trossard believes Arsenal have the quality to compete with Liverpool and could finally get that long-awaited victory at Anfield.

“They (Liverpool) have such a good team and such a good squad and even this season you can see how they develop, how well they do it,” he told Canal+.

“It’s always a very difficult place to take points from, so we have to be so, so good in the game and on the day to get the points and hopefully three points.

“I think we are in a good moment right now. We played a really good game against Brighton. We’ve got the momentum again and we have such a good team.

“If everyone is on top, we can beat them there. Of course there are many factors that can decide the game – but we have to believe in ourselves that we can win there. I hope we can do that.”

Last season, Arsenal drew 2-2 at Anfield despite leading by two goals, ruining their title hopes.

Trossard came off the bench that afternoon, his second visit to Anfield this season after scoring a hat-trick in the 3-3 draw with Brighton in October.

“Obviously it was a memorable moment for me,” he added. “Not many players manage to score at Anfield, let alone a hat-trick. It’s one of the best moments of my career so far.”
