Ian Wright praised Arsenal for getting a point tonight at Liverpool and also praised midfielder Declan Rice.
Rice produced another fantastic performance in midfield as the Gunners returned from Anfield with a point. In the end, the result was completely fair given the chances and amount of play on both sides.
It was another important game for Rice to prove his worth. The Englishman has received much praise for his performances since signing his contract and today was no different.
Ian Wright praised Declan Rice after the Arsenal-Liverpool game
Ian Wright told the Premier League about Rice and said that he thought Rice was the reason why the Gunners were able to go into the game with so much confidence.
“I take that point for how we played today. I thought Declan Rice was magnificent. I didn’t think we had much flow in the game. I thought we defended well. Liverpool could and maybe should have scored that goal, but to go to Anfield and get a point is always a good point,” said Wright.
“I think Rice is one of the main reasons why you can go to Anfield with confidence. Yes, we would have liked to see more from Odegaard, Sako and Martinelli, but at the same time, this team needs to score a goal to progress and draw at Liverpool, which should be taken as a good result.”
Rice looks to be a bargain
While Arsenal may be missing a top striker, they certainly aren’t missing a defensive midfielder now that they have acquired Rice.
Last summer, when Arsenal paid £100 million for the England international, eyebrows were raised. But that sum now appears to be a bargain and Mikel Arteta must be delighted.
Rice seems to have a bit of everything in his game and, as Wright mentions, he gives confidence to other Arsenal players.
The midfielder is now showing why there was so much interest in him last summer. Arsenal top the table at Christmas and can ultimately win it all.
Rice will therefore continue to be key in the title race.
