Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is unhappy as €69m forward told him he’s going to Arsenal after speaking to Mikel Arteta

Arsenal are reported to be among a number of leading teams interested in Juventus winger Federico Chiesa. The 26-year-old could be available in the January transfer window as Juve need to raise transfer funds and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is likely to be paying close attention.

Chiesa is a big name on the European stage, having developed an eye for goal at Fiorentina. The Italian international is now in his fourth season at Juve and is on track to have the best Serie A season of his career.

However, his efforts to score more than 10 goals in the 2019/20 season may ultimately come to nothing due to a wave of interest from the Premier League. Tuttojuve reports that Arsenal have been joined by Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle United, who are all looking at the wide midfielder.

Juventus are in dire need of an expensive midfield overhaul, with Nicolo Fagioli currently serving a seven-month suspension and Paul Pogba facing an even longer suspension.

Selling Chiesa would be the quickest way for the Turin giants to fill their pockets, and they would reportedly be ready to do a deal if the Gunners or any other interested party offered £69 million.

Arsenal would probably face stiff competition for Fiorentina’s academy player if they were interested in him in January. According to reports from Italy, Liverpool’s Klopp is a big fan of his and may try to spoil the party by suggesting a move to Anfield.

While Chiesa is an outside specialist, the Gunners are said to be interested in signing the striker this winter. With Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, manager Mikel Arteta has two talented options, although they have proved no match for Manchester City’s Erling Haaland or Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Arteta recently fueled the speculation by saying the traditional number 9 is “coming back”, adding: “If you look at Harry Kane, Haaland, Ivan Toney, [Aleksandar] Mitrovic, there are some players. You have examples of players who score a lot of goals.”

However, he made sure not to worry about Jesus and Nketiah by insisting – at least publicly – that Arsenal have no intention of overhauling the offensive line in January.

“We are not even thinking about that,” he said. “We have really good players up front. It is true that we have some injuries now. We will continue with the players we have.”
