“It’s getting closer”: Journalist hints Arsenal could finally table £80 million bid for striker, as Jesus and Nketiah experiment failed again after disappointing Fulham defeat

Ivan Toney is a player that Arsenal are interested in, but it could be that the Gunners ultimately delay the purchase of the Brentford striker.

Toney will return from a lengthy suspension next month and there is much talk of him moving to another club.

Arsenal, who continue to search for a new striker, are known to be admirers of Toney. Other clubs like Tottenham and Chelsea are also keen on Toney.

However, David Ornstein of The Athletic told the BBC today that although there is interest in Toney, clubs may actually decide to wait until he leaves for free in 2025.

Arsenal can sign Ivan Toney for free
A prominent journalist had some interesting things to say about Toney’s situation at Brentford when talking about the future of the English striker.

“He is a player under contract until the summer of 2025, so this is the last chance for Brentford to maximize their value in him. That doesn’t mean it will happen because the price tag will be very high. They want £100 million and who is willing to pay that much? I think there has been some interest, but no real contact yet,” Ornstein said.

“So we have Arsenal, who are rumored to want Ivan Toney, but I don’t know of any developments in that area. Their plan for a striker would be more towards the summer for financial reasons. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a free transfer in the summer of 2025. Brentford would want to tie him to a new contract, but I don’t think they would reach the wage level he would want. There might be a release clause in it, but I think it would be a big risk for Ivan Toney.”
