‘One thing I would say’… Journalist makes interesting claim about Kylian Mbappe and Arsenal now
Kylian Mbappe is in the final six months of his contract with PSG, which could make Arsenal wary.
The French striker is arguably the world’s hottest football target and now that he can negotiate with foreign clubs to sign a pre-contract, you can imagine that every sporting director in Europe is thinking very carefully about his next move.
Arsenal have long been linked with Mbappe, ever since he was a teenager, and although this deal looked so unlikely for a long time, Arsenal’s recent resurrection may have put him back in the mix.
Sam Dean touched on the idea of Mbappe going to Arsenal on The Arsenal Beat Podcast, and although he admitted that a move was unlikely, he noted that the player himself could be interested in a move to Arsenal.
Mbappe could be interested in Arsenal
Dean shared his opinion on the idea of Mbappe going to the Emirates.
“Should we do that, or should we address the issue of Mbappe? I think everyone knows it’s not going to happen because of the salary he would require and the structure that Arsenal have. Yes, there is no transfer fee, but I imagine the transfer fee to sign Mbappe as a free agent would be significant,” Dean said.
“But let’s leave the financial reality aside for a moment. One thing I would say about Mbappe’s situation is that if he looks around Europe for clubs to go to, there are not many, and I think Arsenal would be very high on the list of attractive clubs. A young, promising team in Europe, the Thierry Henry factor, there are many things that speak for Arsenal. That attraction is huge right now, but I think the salary alone would be staggering, so I don’t see it, but the idea of Mbappe looking around Europe and seeing Arsenal as an attractive proposition is fascinating.”
It’s worth it
Mbappe would undoubtedly violate all kinds of salary structures and financial plans that Arsenal have in place, but it’s hard to argue that he wouldn’t be worth it.
Make no mistake, the World Cup winner is one of the best players of this generation and he would change this Arsenal team overnight.
At the age of 25, he would still have an insane resale value in a few years, and although wages would be elusive, that money could be recouped by selling him later.
Maybe, just maybe, this is a match that Arsenal would like to get involved in.
