Surprise striker was spotted in Arsenal training as an agent arrived in London to finalise talks for an immediate £50 million transfer to Emirates

Arsenal have been linked with Victor Osimhen, Ivan Toney and others this winter, but Mikel Arteta appears to be making plans with the young striker, who was most recently at Motherwell….

Arsenal go into the winter break in fourth place, having slipped behind leaders Liverpool by five points in recent weeks.

The Gunners scored fewer goals than the teams around them, but center-forwards Bukayo Saka (12 direct goals) and Martin Odegaard (seven) were their strongest strikers.

The need for a ninth goalscorer seems obvious, and Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic has recently been linked with Napoli and Brentford, who have demanded too much for Osimhen and Toney respectively.

But Vlahovic is also valued at €35.2 million according to FootballTransfer’s internal algorithm, which is significantly more than they would have to pay for Mike Biereth, who they already have!

A chance for Biereth?

Arsenal uploaded images to their ‘Inside Training’ page on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Liverpool, and the Saka clip shows Biereth in the background, apparently training with the first team.

The image caused some surprise as neither Arsenal nor Motherwell have commented on the future of the London-born Danish U21 international.

Biereth has scored six goals and five assists in 14 games in the first half of the Scottish Premiership season, a significant achievement for a team fighting relegation, and although this division is far behind the Premier League, it speaks volumes about his promise.

Whether Biereth will get any minutes against Liverpool remains to be seen. Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah are still the first strikers at the Emirates.

But their return to the attack, or lack thereof, could give the youngster a temporary chance, at least until Arteta gets his long-awaited high-profile No. 9.
