First January done deal soon… £56 million bid tipped to be accepted as player’s agent met with Arsenal’s representatives in London to complete January transfer
Arsenal are unlikely to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana this month, despite reports that he could move.
Onana is said to be a target for the Gunners, who are looking to strengthen their midfield. Reports claimed that Arsenal had even opened talks to sign him from Everton.
Then Onana’s agent was spotted in London, adding fuel to the fire.
But Football Transfers, after a brief comment from David Ornstein that there are currently no talks between Everton and Arsenal, claimed that a deal will not happen.
Arsenal will not sign Amadou Onana
According to the FT, reports that Onana is in talks to sign a contract with Arsenal are false.
They claim that despite reports elsewhere, there is “not much” in the story linking the Gunners to Onana.
This is of course good news for Everton, who are desperate to keep their £58 million star.
For Arsenal fans, however, it is not surprising that the links to Onana are being toned down. With so much focus on FFP in their search for a striker, it always seemed unlikely that they would get a new center-forward this month.
Onana may be one of those they will consider further down the line. Like Douglas Luiz, Onana is probably a player who will be signed in the next window rather than now.
Future signing
As mentioned earlier, Amadou Onana is definitely someone that Arsenal will look at in the future.
The problem is that they can’t afford such a player right now and they need to address other problematic positions in the squad.
Everton know deep down that Onana is a player who is likely to get a big transfer opportunity in the next window.
Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool have been known to cast admiring glances in his direction in the past.
So surely Onana to Arsenal is a move that should not be ruled out at any point.
