DONE DEAL: Tottenham reach full agreement as medical is booked for £34m defender to seal move

Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon will sign for Brentford today and a medical is scheduled for this afternoon, LondonWorld confirms. The Spanish defender spent the first half of the season with Manchester United and will now play at the Gtech Community Stadium until the end of the season.

United signed Reguilon in August following injuries to club left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacio and despite making 12 appearances for the club, both club and player agreed to terminate his contract and he has returned to north London.

LondonWorld has learned that the contract at Brentford will be similar to the one he signed at Old Trafford, a simple six-month deal with no obligation to buy, and that the player will return to the club this summer to be assessed by Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian manager made it clear that the 27-year-old Reguilon is not part of his plans for this season and named just eight substitutes in the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford, with Italian full-back Destiny Udogie the first choice at left-back and the versatile Ben Davies his capable assistant.

Why Brentford works well for Sergio Reguilon
Brentford manager Thomas Frank is known to want an experienced left-back for the rest of the season, but Reguilon offers the wide attacking option he is looking for.

The Bees have lost Rico Henry to a serious knee injury and Aaron Hickey is also out after a serious hamstring injury in November, so Reguilon will get some minutes over the next few months to boost his confidence and form.

Spurs are determined to sell him this summer, as his contract expires in 2025, and have a better chance of extracting a significant fee for him once he is fit and playing in the Premier League.

Reguilon said goodbye to his teammates at Hotpsur Way on Tuesday and is not expected to be back at the club until the summer.
