“He’ll help us win the premier league”: Mikel Arteta hails ‘unbelievable’ Arsenal star following Liverpool win – Not Saka and Martinelli

Mikel Arteta spoke highly of the Arsenal player after Sunday afternoon’s Premier League match against Liverpool.

Arsenal hosted Jürgen Klopp’s Reds at the Emirates Stadium and put in an outstanding home performance.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring after a fierce counter-attack, and although Luis Diaz reduced the arrears just before half-time, Arsenal retook the lead and doubled it in the second half.

Gabriel Martinelli capitalised on a terrible mistake by Virgil van Dijk and Alisson, and then Leandro Trossard brought the game to an end in stoppage time.

And although the scorers and those responsible for some of the individual errors that decided the game will steal the headlines, Arteta rightly singled out another of his unsung heroes.

The centre-forward Jorginho, who was paired with Declan Rice in the midfield of the Gunners, played an excellent game. The Italian controlled the middle of the park and rarely stepped wrong, which was noticed by his manager.

“Jorginho is unbelievable. An example, a role model,” he told reporters in a post-match interview, summarised by Fabrizio Romano.

“He was in a lot of pain, he had problems, but he didn’t want to stop.”

“For all the kids, for everyone in the club who wants to look in the mirror, just look at him and how he behaves.”

Jorginho came into the game yesterday because it appeared Gabriel Jesus was not fit enough to start the game.

With Kai Havertz moving into a more attacking role, space was freed up in the middle of the park and Martin Odegaard donned his cap and played in his usual role as number 10 and Rice in behind, allowing Jorginho to come in and help dictate the play.
