PSG striker Kylian Mbappe has reportedly told PSG that he intends to leave the club this summer. The 25-year-old will become a free agent at the end of the season.
The French captain’s future is a long-running saga. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are among the English clubs, along with Spanish giants Real Madrid, expected to transfer the striker.
Atletico reported that Mbappe has told PSG that he will leave the club after the end of the current season, although terms have not yet been finalised. Journalist David Ornstein explained that by leaving Mbappe, PSG will save 200 million euros a year and focus on building a young squad. PSG and Mbappe are expected to announce a decision once the terms are fully agreed.
The 25-year-old was briefly excluded from PSG’s first team this summer after refusing to trigger a 12-month contract extension. This decision was supposed to be entirely in Mbappe’s hands, leaving PSG very disappointed, but he was soon reintegrated into the squad. Despite much talk about his future this season, Mbappe has scored 31 goals in 30 games.
The Independent recently reported that Mbappe has already received an offer from Real Madrid, which has long been mentioned as his next destination. As his contract is nearing its end, he may be in preliminary negotiations with clubs outside of France.
Mbappe could become a free agent, but the sums involved in signing a contract are still expected to be high. As previously reported by football.london, Arsenal were given the opportunity to sign Mbappe last year but were not willing to pay for the move.
Mbappe has reportedly already given the green light for a possible move, as he would “love” to join the Gunners, which would allow him to emulate France and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. Meanwhile, Liverpool are also in the race for his signature, while clubs from Saudi Arabia are also showing interest.
