The striker, who is one of Newcastle United’s most recognisable players every week, is now being linked with Arsenal. In Catalonia, the Swede is seen as a potential successor to Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona hopes that Newcastle will be in favour of selling the 24-year-old striker in order to comply with the Financial Fair Play (FFP) and Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) of the Premier League.
The FFP rules were introduced by UEFA and stipulate that clubs cannot spend more than they earn over three years, while the PSR rules were introduced by the Premier League and allow clubs to generate a maximum of £105 million over three years, which is approximately €121.6 million.
Lewandowski’s successor?
Isak is said to cost around €104 million, which the reigning Spanish champions are also willing to pay, according to The Sun. This would make him Newcastle’s most expensive outgoing transfer in history. That record is currently held by Andy Carroll, who joined Liverpool for €41 million.
Barcelona are looking for a successor to Lewandowski, who will turn 36 in four months and has been less productive this season than last. In 43 games, the Pole has scored 20 goals and 9 assists.
Last season, the 148-time national team player (82 goals) found the net 33 times in 46 games and scored 8 assists. His contract runs until mid-2026, but there is renewed concrete interest in Saudi Arabia.
Barcelona’s interest is linked to several problems. Arsenal are also said to be interested in Isak, although their preferred target is Viktor Gyokeres, and recently there have been new links with Dusan Vlahovic. An even bigger problem for Barca is the fact that it has no money.
The Blaugrana would have to make some big sales to even consider signing Isak, who has shown no signs of being ready to leave. In fact, Newcastle has reportedly only accepted offers for Bruno Guimaraes, but not for Isako.
