Arsenal to trigger £42.6 million clause and try to sign incredible La Liga star

Arsenal are planning to trigger the £42.6million release clause in Nico Williams’ contract, according to reports.

The 21-year-old has banged in seven goals and grabbed 16 assists in 34 appearances for Athletic Bilbao this season across all fronts and is a player that is attracting some of the games biggest clubs.

It is no secret that Mikel Arteta is looking to add some more quality to his attack when the transfer window opens up and is keen to bolster his squad with another winger – to help cove injuries etc.

A report from Football Transfers claims the Gunners want to add the Athletic Bilbao wideman to their ranks, but they will have to move fast because PSG are also said to be interested.

Chelsea could also switch their attentions to Williams if they fail in a move for Michael Olise

In an interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones recently urged Arsenal to make a move for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams this summer, although he could cost close to £100 million to sign from the Spanish side.

Jones said: “There are a few rumours going around on social media about Rafael Leao being an ARSENAL target. While it does make sense in some way, I just cannot see this coming through.

“I can believe his style of play is something Arsenal would love to add to the mix. His characteristics fit with the fact they want to find a new wide option and he is direct and exciting, but he has a high release clause

“Even though that won’t be met by anyone, you are still looking at a £100million player. I don’t sense that Arsenal will go that high, and I’m not sure I really see the player on the move yet.

“If we are to look for a signing from abroad, I think a player like Nico Williams would make more sense.”
