Fabrizio Romano has given the latest on Arsenal’s interest in Sporting Clube de Portugal’s striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Gunners have been linked throughout the summer with the striker as they seek to bolster that front line over the next few months – and Gyokeres 43 goal season last year has got many clubs interested in a potential deal.

There has been so many rumours and speculation regarding the future of Gyokeres – but the latest reports suggest that Arsenal are leading the chase to sign the big man and are even getting closer to a possible deal for the forward.

Now – Romano has given the latest, claiming  it’s a situation that is fluid – He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it could be an interesting situation for all the clubs looking for strikers around Europe, and not only Europe, maybe also with Saudi for example.

‘I still remember last summer, there was strong interest from Saudi for Victor Osimhen. So for both Gyokeres and Osimhen, the situation is quite interesting. For Gyokeres, Sporting still want a release clause. They want a package of €100m (£85m) for Victor Gyokeres.

“This is an expensive deal, and this is why ARSENAL have shown interest in the recent months but, at the moment, are still not advancing, because they want to understand how much is going to be the final package.

‘We know that sometimes, in the market, the price can change. In June, you have a price, and then in July and August, it can change. So let’s see what Arsenal will decide to do.”

ARSENAL have been linked with some big names – but if they manage to get Gyokeres – they will be getting a real goal threat and a man that will score goals on a weekly basis – that is for sure.

ZIRKZEE WILL MOVE ON – 

Bologna have confirmed that Arsenal and Chelsea target Joshua Zirkzee is ‘99.9 per cent’ likely to leave the club this summer.

Having narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City, Arteta and Edu Gaspar will be looking to bolster their squad in a number of departments ahead of the new season

Christopher Nkunku has been injured for alot of the season, while Nicolas Jackson has only shown glimpses of the potential that many believe he has, and has been backed to never be a 30 goal a season striker.

Mikel Arteta too is keen to add a striker to his impressive Arsenal attack at some point in the coming transfer window as that is an area that needs to be improved on with Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus linked with moves away.

That has led to many reports in the media that Arsenal are interested in signing the striker this summer but recent reports has revealed it is ‘now or never’ if they want to sign Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee.

And now Bologna’s technical director, Giovanni Sartori, has confirmed that the club have already been working on signing a replacement for the 23-year-old: ‘Zirkzee has a clause so he will leave 99.9 per cent,’ Sartori told Sky Sport Italia on Monday evening.

‘We have been thinking about his replacement for months.

‘It won’t be easy but we will work to replace him, we already have some names, some ideas.’

ARSENAL WOMEN SIGN STRIKER – 

Arsenal Women have signed Mariona Caldentey from Barcelona, the club have announced on their website.

Arsenal posted: ‘We are delighted to announce the signing of Mariona Caldentey on a permanent deal.

‘Mariona joins ARSENAL after ten years with FC Barcelona, during which time she has won 25 titles. She will wear the No.8 jersey here at Arsenal.

‘Born in Mallorca on 19 March 1996, Mariona worked up through the youth ranks at Collerense, making her senior debut there in 2011.

‘The forward then moved to Barcelona in 2014, making her debut at the age of 18 and developing into an integral part of the first team under successive coaches.

‘Now 28, Mariona departs Barcelona having won six Liga F titles, three UEFA Women’s Champions Leagues, six Spanish Cups, four Spanish Super Cups and six Catalan Cups.

‘Mariona made 302 appearances for Barcelona in total, scoring 114 goals – making her the Catalan side’s fifth all-time top scorer.

‘At international level, Mariona has scored 26 goals in 72 matches for Spain and was part of the squad that won the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and 2023/24 UEFA Nations League.’

Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley added: “We’re so happy to have signed Mariona, who brings with her a wealth of experience and success at the top of women’s football. It’s a testament to her ambition and character that she has chosen to undertake a new challenge, come to the Women’s Super League and join what we’re building here at ARSENAL.

“I’m sure our supporters will be excited to see her run out in Arsenal colours very soon.”
