Forgotten Arsenal star not in future plans for Mikel Arteta
An Arsenal star is no longer in the plans of Mikel Arteta, as he heads towards a January transfer window exit from the club.
It has been revealed that a forgotten Arsenal man is not in the plans of manager Mikel Arteta, and is expected to leave the club during the January transfer window.
After returning from a broadly unsuccessful loan spell with Real Sociedad, Kieran Tierney looked almost certain to leave Arsenal during the summer transfer window.
But when the left-back suffered a tournament-ending injury during Scotland’s Euro 2024 group stage match against Switzerland, which the Tartan Army drew 1-1, the club’s plans to Tierney were shelved due to his hamstring issue.
Despite having now recovered from his injury, Tierney is still yet to feature in a matchday squad for the Gunners this season, with some even forgetting that he is still an Arsenal player altogether.
According to reliable Arsenal journalist Charles Watts, the 27-year-old is no longer in the plans of Arteta, and is expected to leave the club in the immediate future.
Speaking to CaughtOffside, Watts said: “Kieran Tierney is NOT in Mikel Arteta’s plans anymore. There is no animosity there. He knows the club has moved on & that his qualities as a left-back are not what Arsenal need in the system that they play.
“Tierney is continuing to work his way back to full fitness after the awful hamstring injury he suffered at the Euros. Had that injury not happened, I’m sure Tierney would have been playing for another club right now.
“He will hope to get a move in January, probably on loan, so he can get some minutes somewhere ahead of the summer when he can try & secure a permanent move away.”
Despite his injury-plagued Arsenal career, Tierney has always been a fan-favourite at the club, and supporters have taken great sympathy with him over this latest update on his future.
One such supporter said: “I think it’s totally disrespectful for a player who was our best player through the dark times. It’s brutal and I understand it is the way it is but some players seem to be protected more than others,” on X (formerly Twitter).
