Following victory at Wembley in the play-off final, Sunderland fans were quickly sobered up by news that Bellingham was in Germany visiting Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 19-year-old has been crucial to efforts under Regis Le Bris over the past year, an England U21 international with a big future ahead.

Of course, big clubs were always going to be linked with Bellingham this summer, but Sunderland’s return to the Premier League might have sparked fresh hope in fans that he will stay for at least one more season.

And despite Bellingham’s continued tour of Germany, Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman and his team haven’t given up all hope of the youngster staying put just yet.

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Sunderland have made it clear to Bellingham that there is still a place for him within their squad next season if he stays — something they hope he will.

As of now, Bellingham is set to continue his tour of Germany to visit Borussia Dortmund’s training facility, the club at which his older brother Jude famously made so much progress.

The 19-year-old met with Eintracht Frankfurt this week as mentioned, and RB Leipzig are also hopeful of meeting him and his entourage.

However, Dortmund remain confident of signing Bellingham, a youngster they’ve known about for many years.

The German side have a strong relationship with the Bellingham family for obvious reasons and Dortmund have long shown interest in Jobe.

Dortmund’s head of UK scouting Daniel Dodds, the brother of former Birmingham City and Sunderland coach Mike Dodds, has played a major role in trying to sign Bellingham.

In the last 24 hours, Dortmund sources have confirmed to TBR Football that they remain hopeful of securing Bellingham’s signature in the coming week.

On their part, Sunderland have sanctioned Bellingham’s trip to Germany.

Long before Sunderland beat Sheffield United in the play-off final they agreed to let their star man visit clubs in Germany.

But as mentioned, Le Bris’ side still hope to begin their Premier League campaign with Bellingham at the heart of their midfield.
