Celtic should sign another ex-Arsenal star after Manager’s brutal call to terminate contract
There is nobody better in Scotland at bringing in players for low fees and then selling them for big money.
Celtic do it for fun, whether it’s Kieran Tierney returning on a free transfer after his £25 million transfer to Arsenal in 2019, or Jota coming back for less than half the price in the winter following his 18-month stints in Saudi Arabia and France.
Many of those types of deals work wonders for Celtic, and it’s time for Brendan Rodgers to go down the same road during the 2025 summer transfer window.
It’s hard enough being a free agent, unless you are Trent Alexander-Arnold signing for Real Madrid, but it’s even worse having your contract terminated.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer terminates Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Besiktas contract
Celtic fans will be familiar with the name Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after he won the Premier League title and the Champions League in Liverpool colours.
But, for the past two seasons, the 31-year-old has been in Turkey and playing for Besiktas under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Manchester United legend was appointed Besiktas coach midway through last season, and as preparations begin for a new campaign, he and the club have opted to terminate Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract.
Turkish reporter Yağız Sabuncuoğlu broke the news on his social media account by stating: ‘Beşiktaş has terminated Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract!’
Celtic should look to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain
This is a man with a vast amount of experience and someone who can operate in many positions across the pitch.
From the right wing to being able to play a number eight, Celtic should look to sign the 35-cap England star, who came through Southampton’s academy and also played for Arsenal in his career.
With over 200 appearances in the English Premier League, as well as 51 in the Champions League, it’s another reason for Rodgers to sign him up for nothing.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has played for pressure clubs, so he will understand and be able to cope with the pressure cooker of Glasgow.
It would be a smart deal, and unless he wants inflated wages, then you aren’t hurting your back pocket that much.
