Jamie Carragher says Evangelos Marinakis has made Nottingham Forest unlikeable

Every pundit in football has given their opinion on Nottingham Forest over the last week after Nuno Espirito Santo was dismissed as manager, and Jamie Carragher is the latest to give his thoughts.

Evangelos Marinakis is no doubt an enigmatic figure, and he does divide opinions amongst football fans.

His emotional attachment to Nottingham Forest can often be seen as overstepping his role, and his outspoken remarks have caused controversy including Gary Neville being banned from the City Ground.

Now, Jamie Carragher has claimed that the actions of Marinakis have made the Tricky Trees ‘one of the most disliked’ clubs.

Jamie Carragher says Evangelos Marinakis has made Nottingham Forest unlikeable

It is a bold claim to make, but Jamie Carragher has made it.

The former Liverpool defender feels that Nottingham Forest are widely disliked by football fans, and it is all down to Evangelos Marinakis.

In a column for the Telegraph, Carragher says, ‘Today, they are one of the most disliked because of the behaviour of their owner, Evangelos Marinakis. The Premier League has a new pantomime villain. Marinakis is a walking hand grenade.’

Jamie Carragher may believe that Marinakis is a ‘villain’ but it is the complete opposite in the eyes of Nottingham Forest fans.

Under Marinakis, the club has seen promotion to the Premier League, and have become a consistent feature of England’s top-flight.

Forest are now back in Europe, and have a good chance of bringing silverware back to the City Ground.

Ange Postecoglou won the Europa League last year, and expectations will be on a deep run in the same competition this year.

His ruthless decision-making may have its critics, but it should equally have its plaudits, as it has been successful so far.

Evangelos Marinakis deserves praise for Nottingham Forest job

It is a harsh claim to make, particularly as Marinakis is a beloved figure among supporters of the Garibaldi.

His time as owner has been the most fruitful the club has seen since the days of Brian Clough.

The Greek owner has been committed to bringing Nottingham Forest back to the glory days, and each season in the Premier League he has gone a step closer. That is a feat that deserves praise.

Carragher isn’t shy to admit that although he thinks Marinakis has made the club disliked, those who do not like the club ‘might still grudgingly admire’ the owner’s approach.

His relentless desire to make Nottingham Forest one of the best teams in England can only be commended.

And that was Marinakis’ justification for sacking Nuno and hiring Ange Postecoglou.
