“Misses two big chances each game” – Key Leeds signing already under big pressure to deliver
Lukas Nmecha was the first summer signing confirmed at Leeds United. And with his pending arrival many were underwhelmed, as he was supposed to be the replacement for Joel Piroe.
But later during the window, fans learned that Nmecha was more likely to be a rotation option and that there were plans to bring an established forward. News of a bid for Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz early in the window had fans excited – Leeds were about to land a top Premier League striker.
The transfer window had some unfortunate ups and downs, and the Whites ended up signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer.

Obviously, there is nothing wrong with the former Everton man. He has proven his quality, and is a good addition for any team in the league when fit. Leeds brought him in to solve their issues up top, but people were skeptic especially seeing his injury record and availability over the past years.
Calvert-Lewin made his debut against Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup, coming on late in the game. He missed a lot of chances and looked very rusty. Another cameo against Newcastle followed, and he eventually made his first start this weekend. The striker missed a big chance to put Leeds in front early in the game, and was substituted in the second half after an underwhelming performance.
Former Premier League defender Ashley Williams now says there is ‘big pressure’ on the 28-year old to deliver:
“There is big, big pressure on Calvert-Lewin to deliver, to stay fit, to stay on the pitch but also they have to supply him. I think today he had one chance, the header, which he should have done better with.
“They’ve all got to chip in and create a lot more. Yes, unlucky with the result today but they were still only getting a point, they don’t look like they’re getting three points because they’re not creating enough.”
Daniel Farke has already mentioned how important Calvert-Lewin will be to Leeds chances of survival. Hopefully he can deliver later this season.
