Ipswich Town defender Cameron Burgess has spoken candidly ahead of today’s Championship showdown with Coventry City, revealing the Sky Blues player who has him most concerned.

While many might expect Burgess to highlight the creativity of Jack Rudoni or the dribbling flair of Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, the Australian centre-back instead admitted that it’s striker Haji Wright who keeps him on edge.

“Facing him today is not going to be an easy task for me. I’m really scared of him,” Burgess revealed. “Wright has pace, power, and he only needs half a chance to punish you. He’s the kind of forward defenders hate coming up against.”

Wright, who has become Coventry’s main attacking spearhead, has been in fine form with his sharp movement and clinical finishing. His ability to stretch defences and create danger both on the counter and inside the box makes him a constant threat.

Burgess admitted that containing Wright will be crucial if Ipswich want to secure a result.

“You can prepare as much as you like, but when you’re up against someone with his instincts and athleticism, it’s always difficult. That’s why I’ve got so much respect for him.”
