Coventry City player with the most outrageous performances last night

Two goals from Haji Wright in each half put Coventry City on course for the full three points at Millwall where they returned to second in the table as Frank Lampard’s men continued their unbeaten start to the season. 

Ellis Simms then nodded home from close range to add a third before fellow substitute Kaine Kesler-Hayden thumped home a fourth after playing a brilliant one-two on the counter attack to seal the impressive victory for the Sky Blue

Victor Torp went closest to breaking the deadlock when he had two chances in quick succession, the first being blocked before turning the rebound onto the post in a lively first half at The Den where striker Wright eventually gave the visitors a deserved lead on the half hour mark. 

The goal was sparked by Brandon Thomas-Asante who robbed defender Tristan Crama just outside of the Millwall area and then rounded the keeper before playing a square ball to the back post for the USA international to score his seventh of the season with the simplest of tap-ins.

The Lions had their first shot on target as late as the 51st minute when Jake cooper got a soft touch to a ball into the box, allowing Carl Rushworth to drop low to make a comfortable save as the hosts launched a determined fight-back. Rushworth was called upon again to deny tricky winger Emakhu but the Sky Blues took the sting out of the home side’s mounting pressure when Wright headed home unmarked at the other end where he timed a brilliant run to connect with a Milan van Ewijk cross to make it 2-0 with 66 minutes on the clock. 

Simms then added a third in the 82nd minute when he headed in from two yards out before Kesler-Hayden started and finished a sensational run that combined with Van Ewijk down the right three minutes from time.

CARL RUSHWORTH: 7 

Commanded his area well, taking an early curling corner safe into his grasp and looking to get the ball out quickly. Not tested in the first half and made a routine low save early in the second before denying Emakhu from distance. Held his nerve amid some frantic defending in the box after the break. 

MILAN VAN EWIJK: 8 

Had the beating of Emakhu down the right in the first half but was beaten by the winger after the break when the Millwall player sent a teasing ball across the face of goal. Provided a brilliant assist in the form of a pinpoint cross for Wright to head home City’s second. Provided another assist for Kesler-Hayden to add a fourth.
