DOUG KING – THE PREMIER LEAGUE IS WHERE WE SHOULD BE

Coventry City owner Doug King thinks that Coventry City as a football club should be in the Premier League.

King said to Radio 4: “Listen, I obviously want to get us to the Premier League. That’s where I think we should be as a football club. It’s a big football club. It’s a one-city football club. And we’ve been there before, founder members.

“I’m also conscious of the fact that major clubs haven’t actually been there. Bristol City has never been in the Premier League, and it’s got a very successful, wealthy owner who’s doing great things down at Bristol, but they haven’t made it up to the top table. So I’m not kidding myself, but I’m competitive, and we’ll try our best to sort of get there.

“I mean we’ve had a really good start and I think that gets everybody dreaming, but you know we haven’t had a good start for a while so it’s good to have one to be honest with you.

“We’ve just got to keep on doing what we’re doing and it will take care of it. We’ll lose some games, we’ll play badly, we’ll be turned over and everybody will have their opinion again. But I’m liking what I’m seeing.

“And I’m obviously a businessman. I look at businesses that work well, that don’t work so well, that need action and other times need to be left alone a bit. And I feel like we’re in a really good spot with really talented people in the football club and obviously our head coach and his team and surrounding people who are working with him are doing a fantastic job so far.”
