Deal signed: Paperworks and official announcement soon, Arsenal set to complete first January transfer in coming days
Amid speculation that Arsenal are interested in him signing new contract during January transfer window, Fabrizio Romano provides an update on the future of Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Takehiro Tomiyasu was very popular with the fans during his time at the Emirates. However, this window will be difficult for Mikel Arteta to negotiate.
The summer loan of David Ray suggests that Arsenal will have to be careful in January if they want to make any significant transfers. Therefore, serious bids for a number of players may need to be considered.
Arsenal close to agreeing a new contract with Takehiro Tomiyasu
So it seemed interesting that a Japanese international worth £20 million was attracting attention. Napoli are one of the clubs reportedly in talks with Arsenal over Tomiyasu.
However, Fabrizio Romano claimed on his YouTube channel that there is no chance of Tomiyasu leaving Arsenal in this window. In fact, both parties hope that he will extend his stay at the Emirates.
“Talks between Arsenal and Tomiyasu are progressing to the final stage with a view to signing a new contract soon,” he said.
“So Tomiyasu is staying. He’s not going to Milan, to Roma, to Napoli, no rumors about a possible deal for Tomiyasu, no. Tomiyasu is part of the Arsenal project. And the idea is to extend his contract, so that we continue in this way. Tomiyasu and Arsenal are very optimistic.”
An important deal for the Gunners
Tomiyasu is a fantastic player to have in the team. He has struggled with injuries during his time at Arsenal and has racked up 21 Premier League appearances in his two full seasons at the club.
Tomiyasu was one of those who was poor at the weekend as Arsenal lost to Fulham.
However, he is a player who can play at all ends of the backline. This is particularly important at a time when Jurrien Timber is coming back from a long-term injury.
His role is so valuable that it drives everyone in the team. And it looks like Tomiyasu will be with us for a while longer.
