Mikel Arteta is now personally pushing Arsenal to sign £53m midfield star to partner with Declan Rice

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi in the current transfer window.

The Canaries have had a disastrous few weeks, haven’t they? They have only won one of their last five Premier League games, and fans are hoping their team will be strengthened this month. Arsenal manager Arteta is obviously a big fan of Zubimendi.

Mikel Arteta wants to bring Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal

Arsenal have very few options in midfield.

Declan Rice is the main man in defensive midfield and Jorginho plays as a reserve. Mohamed Elneny will now travel to the African Championships, while Thomas Partey is still injured and it is unclear when he will return.

Arsenal would definitely need another quality midfielder who can play on the left in a number eight role or fill a defensive midfield spot to allow Rice to move forward.

The Gunners will not easily find a viable target this month, but Dean Jones has claimed that Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of Martin Zubimendi and that Arsenal are being led by their manager in their interest in a center-forward.

Jones told GiveMeSport about Zubimendi: “There is certainly serious interest in him. At the moment it is difficult to judge what their target would be because they have a few names that they are looking at and the player type is obviously a defensive player.

“A guy who will hold the ball, break up play. But it’s really hard to know if Zubimendi will be the main target or just a target. Of course, it also depends on how much money they can invest in that part of the pitch.

“He’s definitely a player that I know Mikel Arteta admires a lot, and I think a lot of that is led by him.”

Arsenal could sign Zubimendi for £53 million

Arsenal have been looking at Martin Zubimendi for a long time.

It is no secret that Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the Real Sociedad player, but the Gunners have failed to get a deal for him in recent windows.

If Arsenal really want to sign Zubimendi this month, they must trigger his £53 million buyout clause (Eurosport).

Zubimendi would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal, but the deal is very difficult to complete – not only because his buyout clause must be paid in full, but also because the player has always been loyal to Sociedad.
