Arsenal have moved ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign £90 million striker
Victor Osimhen’s move from Napoli this summer is sure to be one of the biggest deals of this window, if not the biggest.
It has long been known that the Nigerian striker would seek his fortune elsewhere, and with a €130 million buyout clause, only the richest clubs should bid for him.
Chelsea cannot afford Victor Osimhen’s salary
This is why Todd Boehly’s Chelsea were almost immediately placed as favourites to sign Partnope’s talisman.
The American has not thought about breaking the British transfer record until now, but it is this crazy decision that will probably prevent the Blues from landing their main target.
According to TeamTalk, Chelsea are financially unable to meet Osimhen’s wage demands, which are expected to be around £200,000 a week.
Therefore, TeamTalk’s sources believe that Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain, who both offer an attractive alternative to the west London team, are more likely to be in play in the future.
Metro reported back in January that the striker was keen on a move to the Premier League, although at the time it was also reported that Chelsea was his preferred option as he wants to follow in the footsteps of his idol Didier Drogba.
However, if the Blues cannot find a way to afford Osimhen, it is almost certain that he will be wearing the Gunners’ shirt next season.
