‘I want to play under Arteta’: £80 million player would rather sign for Arsenal than Real Madrid and Chelsea
After Barcelona knocked Napoli out of the Champions League, rumours about Victor Osimhen’s future have intensified again.
The Nigerian striker has long been coveted by some of Europe’s biggest football clubs, and this summer Partnope may finally allow their star player to leave.
Chelsea have been constantly mentioned for the player, who reportedly has a €130 million release clause, but apparent rumours have recently emerged linking the 25-year-old to Arsenal.
Arsenal in pursuit of Victor Osimhen no truth
“Guys, there is no news on Victor Osimhen at the moment, despite reports that Arsenal are in the race for his signature ahead of Chelsea,” Fabrizio Romano confirmed to CaughtOffside in his exclusive Daily Briefing.
“There is no ‘promotion’ because it is not a real game. We are not negotiating with Napoli because there is a buyout clause, so it’s about paying that money and doing a deal with Osimhen. Right now, no club is close to that.
“There has been interest from different clubs for several months, but right now we are no longer in this story.”
Until a decision in one direction or another is made, it is clear that the rumours surrounding Osimhen will continue.
It is also understandable why he is so sought after.
Even in a disappointing season for Napoli – currently 31 points behind Serie A leaders Inter – Osimhen has scored 11 goals and three assists in 17 appearances in the Italian top flight, according to WhoScored.
In a team playing at a much higher level than Napoli, the striker could do a lot of damage in front of goal.
Indeed, it wouldn’t be far from the truth to say that he could be crucial in the title race for whichever team is lucky enough to sign him this summer.
