Arsenal now leading the race to sign £40m Dortmund star who has 18goals/assist this season – Edu is keen to make the deal happen in the summer
Arsenal are a concrete option for Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen this summer.
The Gunners are planning to invest in a wide player in the next transfer window and are currently looking at various strikers, including Nico Williams and Pedro Neto.
Florian Plettenberg now reports that the club have a concrete option for Malen, who wants to leave Dortmund at the end of the season. He wants to move to the Premier League.
Dortmund are said to be asking for between 40 and 50 million euros to get rid of him.
Arsenal may be tempted to spend on Malen
Malen was part of Arsenal’s academy between 2015 and 2017. He was expected to make a breakthrough, but ultimately opted for a move to PSV Eindhoven.
The 25-year-old played regularly as a striker during his time in the Eredivisie, but since the summer of 2021, when he joined Dortmund from PSV, he has mostly played from the wing.
Malen has mostly played on the right wing this season. He impressed with 13 goals and five assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.
In our opinion, the Gunners could see him as a good replacement for Bukay Sako. Reiss Nelson has hardly impressed as a substitute and could be sold at the end of the season.
Arsenal will certainly want to negotiate a lower fee for Malen, but it may not be difficult to convince him as he has publicly admitted that he wants to return to the club.
Malen looks a better signing than Neto, who is injury prone, and his salary of €115,000 a week makes him more affordable than Williams, who may want to increase his salary to €200,000 a week.
