Wolves open talks to sign Sunderland’s play-off HERO – He’s the perfect Ait-Nouri replacement
Wolverhampton Wanderers could be set to inflict pain on recently-promoted Sunderland in the coming months, according to reports – with the Molineux outfit thought to be ‘interested’ in Black Cats right-back Trai Hume, ahead of a potential move to the west Midlands.
Hume, who won Sunderland’s Player of the Season award recently, was all but a mainstay in their squad throughout the campaign, scoring three goals and playing a vital part in achieving promotion back to the Premier League after an eight-year absence.

Alongside the likes of other starlets such as Dan Neil, Wilson Isidor, Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham, the Wearside outfit have blossomed with their young squad under manager Regis Le Bris – and Hume has been a huge recipient of the Frenchman’s tactics, deserving of a Premier League chance.
That, however, has seen interest form from elsewhere, according to Sky Sports News – and Wolves boss Vitor Pereira could look to bring the Ballymena-born star to the Black Country, with Nelson Semedo’s future up in the air given that his contract is set to expire in the coming weeks. Sky presenter Dharmesh Sheth told viewers live on air on Monday evening:
“A bit of news reaching us at Sky Sports News – and it concerns a highly-rated Sunderland player, Trai Hume, their defender.
“Wolves, Everton and a number of La Liga clubs are interested. He’s a Northern Ireland international who made 48 appearances in all competitions last season as Sunderland were promoted back to the Premier League.
“He joined Sunderland back in January 2022. His current contract runs until 2027, with Sunderland holding the option to extend for a further year.
“Sunderland, you’d have to say, hold the cards on this one. But his impressive performances from last season have attracted interest from the likes of Wolves.”
Hume was a bit-part player in Sunderland’s promotion from League One in 2022, but he’s since forced his way into the starting XI and has only missed three league games for the club over the past two seasons, including in the play-offs – being labelled as a ‘technician’ by teammate Daniel Ballard in the process.
Should a move to Wolves not blossom if Semedo stays to end speculation of a move to Manchester United, he’s more than likely to get his chance in the top-flight at the Stadium of Light – and potentially impressive performances next season, regardless of their finish, could see him remain a top-flight player for years to come.
