Newcastle United snub chance to sign ‘unhappy camper’ amid £1.3m bonus row
The Juventus star has offered a glum expression after being used as a bit-part player at the FIFA World Club Cup so far
Newcastle United have so far rejected the chance to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.
The Serbia international is deemed as an unhappy tourist with Juve at the FIFA Club World Cup as the Turin club struggle to offload the star.
Vlahovic has a year left of his current contract at Juve but is entitled to a pay rise going into his final campaign. However, Juve would rather not pay the striker and are prepared to cash in on the star.
The terms of Vlahovic’s contract mean that an annual salary jump of around £1.3million would take him from £8.8m to earning approximately £10.1m.
Before Juve headed over to the States for the tournament, Vlahovic’s name was put to top-flight clubs by intermediaries. Vlahovic would want around £192,000 per week to drop Juventus given he still has 12 months left to go on his lucrative current deal.
That salary is still huge for most clubs, Newcastle included who have a wage structure in place. A reduced fee for the striker of £38m has been inserted in a bid to attract interest in the 6ft 2in centre-forward.
