Done deal: Josuha Guilavogui and Tottenham defender react to the latest news coming out of Leeds United TODAY
Tuesday was a busy day at Leeds United as the club confirmed the departures of three players, while confirming their third signing of the summer window in Sebastiaan Bornauw.
Leeds waved goodbye to Junior Firpo, with the left-back’s contract coming to an end. Interestingly, the club did not confirm whether Sam Byram is leaving Leeds, with Byram’s contract also coming to an end.
Josuha Guilavogui’s contract has also expired, but he has already been confirmed as leaving the club. The Whites also waved goodbye to loan players Manor Solomon and Joe Rothwell, who is set to join Rangers.
Then, Leeds confirmed the arrival of Belgium international Bornauw. The former Wolfsburg defender joins on a four-year deal, costing The Whites around £5m. He is expected to replace Max Wober at Leeds.
Sebastiaan Bornauw posts on Instagram after joining Leeds
Bornauw joins Leeds on a contract until 2029, a player that Daniel Farke tried to sign while at Norwich City. The Belgium defender was also a target for Sheffield United in 2024, with Chris Wilder keen on him.
But now, Bornauw finally gets his move to the Premier League after 116 appearances in four seasons at Wolfsburg. He posted a message to Leeds supporters in his first upload on Instagram as a Leeds player.
Bornauw wrote: “Incredibly proud to join Leeds United. What an honour to wear this shirt and represent such a historic club. Can’t wait to give everything on the pitch and feel the energy at Elland Road.”
Josuha Guilavogui and Micky van de Ven react to Bornauw move
Bornauw shared how Guilavogui left him 20 voice messages explaining how Leeds is a great club and would suit the incoming defender. The duo played together at Wolfsburg on 30 separate occasions.
He also played alongside Tottenham’s impressive Dutch defender Micky van de Ven, and both the Spurs ace and Guilavogui were among those to comment on Bornauw’s Instagram post following his move.
Leeds are expected to pursue a goalkeeper, left-back, midfielder, no.10 and a striker between now and the end of the window. Gabriel Gudmundsson is expected to be the next signing, replacing Firpo.
