He was far more effective on the left and crossing with his stronger foot. Maybe it’s time to stop the inverted wingers and switch him & Mitoma. Go old school and play 2 centre forwards feeding on quality crosses.

The Albion were clearly fired up facing so many former teammates. Combined with Fabian Hurzeler also getting his substitutions spot on and it was a perfect afternoon in West London.
Bart Verbruggen – 7.50
His best game of the season. Two full stretch saves from first half free kicks ensured the Albion went into the break 1-0 down rather than 3-0 behind. The comeback would not have been possible without him.
Joel Veltman – 7.00
Referee Simon Hooper was atrocious all afternoon, including showing Veltman a harsh booking when he tangled with Pedro Neto. After Mr Hooper was forced to send Trevor Chalobah off by VAR, the official would have been looking for any way possible to even things up. Hurzeler withdrawing Veltman almost immediately was an excellent piece of management.
Jan Paul van Hecke – 8.00
Van Hecke versus Joao Pedro was always going to be a fascinating battle, given the training ground altercation they had at the end of last season which saw the Brazilian forward’s Albion career end on a sour note. Zero shots for Pedro all afternoon tells you Van Hecke came out on top. He also took a punch from Moises Caciedo during the superb handbags which could land another of his former teammates with a ban.
Lewis Dunk – 6.83

Outshone by Van Hecke but it was still a good performance from the Albion captain. Watching him coolly stand up to countless Chelsea players who were all losing their minds like petty children was magnificent.
Ferdi Kadioglu – 7.33
A good showing at left back up against Estevao Willian. Showed his versatility by popping up on the right further forward when Hurzeler opted to introduce De Cuyper with five minutes of the 90 remaining, in which time Brighton scored both their goals.
Carlos Baleba – 6.50
Grew into the game after half time. Still a long way from his best but this was a positive step forward in terms of helping him get back to it.
Yasin Ayari – 7.50
Like Baleba, he struggled to impact the game much through the opening 45. Began to dominate once Chelsea went down to 10. And it was his cross headed back across goal by Mats Wieffer for De Cuyper to nod home the equaliser.
YANKUBU MINTEH – 9.00
Always enjoyable seeing Marc Cucurella put in a spin. Hurzeler then switching Minteh to the left away from Cucurella seemed odd at the time but it ultimately worked as he crossed from that side for Danny Welbeck to put Brighton 2-1 ahead.
Diego Gomez – 7.17
How and where Hurzler could fit Gomez into his Premier League starting XI after scoring four times at Barnsley was answered by playing him as number 10 behind Georginio Rutter. He was the one fouled by Chalobah which saw the Blues go down to 10 and the complexion of the game change in favour of Brighton.
Kaoru Mitoma – 6.00
You know Mitoma has been quiet when he is substituted. But the flip side of what has been a below-par start to the season is that it is allowing Minteh to shine down the other flank. If opposition teams are now wondering which Albion winger to double up on, that can only be a good thing.
Georginio Rutter – 6.33
Still not convincing as a number nine. The difference between what Rutter brought leading the line and Welbeck when he came on was obvious.
Mats Wieffer – 6.83
A really clever header back across goal from Ayari’s cross enabled De Cuyper to level from close range. Such an intelligent footballer.
Danny Welbeck – 8.83
Second highest score in the Chelsea 1-3 Brighton player ratings suggests rumours of Welbeck’s demise have been overblown. 23 minutes on the pitch plus injury time. Two goals. Welbz is Dat Guy. Always has been for Brighton. Despite what Joao Pedro might claim.
Brajan Gruda – 7.33
Could consider himself unlucky to be dropped after a good game against Spurs. Came on wide initially for Mitoma before switching to a central position, from where an incisive pass sliced through the Chelsea defence to set up Welbeck for the third.
Maxim De Cuyper – 8.00
A clinical headed finish which a seasoned striker would have been proud of. Easy to see why he scored so many goals for Club Brugge from left back.
Stefanos Tzimas – 6.33
Did not see much of the ball during his time on the pitch but his work rate and willingness to run caused Chelsea issues in the closing stages.
