Deal getting closer as to sign £80m striker as club agrees to lower asking price to let him join Arsenal in January

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal have been given a big boost to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney, as the Bees are willing to lower the price to let their star player leave in January.

The Gunners appear to be planning to sign another successful striker in the winter window to strengthen their front line and help Mikel Arteta continue his title march this season.

Several players have been mentioned as potential targets for the north London club, including Victor Osimhen, Santiago Giménez and Dusan Vlahovic, but Toney is expected to be their main choice.

However, it has been reported that Brentford do not want to let their star player go cheaply and want at least £80 million for him. Therefore, Arsenal should not be able to buy the striker in January, as the Gunners’ winter budget is reportedly limited due to FFP rules, having spent more than £200 million last summer.

However, according to Football Transfers, Brentford have decided to lower the asking price and are willing to pay around £55 million for Toney if Arsenal pay the amount in one lump sum.

Toney to Arsenal

The report goes on to say that Arsenal can spend that kind of money in January, having earned £66 million in the Champions League after finishing top of their group and qualifying for the round of 16 in that competition. So this is a big incentive for Arsenal to sign Toney next month.

However, Football Transfers states that Arsenal have not yet received the prize money, so if Brentford cannot pay £55 million next month, they are willing to accept an installment to bring the striker to Arsenal, as the two clubs have a very good relationship.

It was recently announced that Toney is open to moving to the Emirates Stadium and playing under Arteta. Arsenal are said to be aware of the Englishman’s desire and the Emirates club could sign their main target in January to strengthen their attacking department.

However, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal will manage to secure Toney’s signature in the upcoming transfer window if he officially confirms his interest.
