Exclusive: Arsenal are aware that striker wants to join them in January, says FABRIZIO ROMANO
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are aware of Brentford striker Ivan Toney’s desire to move to the Emirates Stadium.
Romano spoke to CaughtOffside in his Daily Briefing column and provided an update on the situation surrounding Toney and a possible move to Arsenal, having previously spoken about the England international’s apparent desire to join the Gunners.
Toney would be an interesting signing for Mikel Arteta’s team, as there are still some doubts whether Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah are capable of scoring often enough to make this team a serious contender for the Premier League title.
A more proven clinical and productive striker like Toney could be ideal to lift Arsenal to the next level and AFC seem to be aware of his desire to join, which could make things interesting.
But Romano also stressed the importance of making an acceptable offer to Brentford, with Toney fully respecting his current club throughout this saga.
“Arsenal are of course aware of Ivan Toney’s position,” Romano said. “It’s not that he has told Arsenal that he wants to go to them, but of course they know that the player would like to go to them.
“But there is still the question of the price, as we have said many times. Also, Toney has always been very respectful towards Brentford, so it all depends on whether the two clubs can reach an agreement.”
