“Remove Martin Ødegaard’s captain band and give it to this Arsenal player for next season”: Chelsea Legend Didier Drogba, has challenged Arteta to remove the captain’s band from Martin Ødegaard or he will be at the risk of losing the PL again like Chelsea next season

Mikel Arteta faces a significant decision ahead of the next season: selecting the captain for Arsenal. Although Martin Ødegaard has shown potential in the role, it might be time for a change. Arteta should consider passing the captain’s armband to someone more fitting.

Ødegaard’s leadership has occasionally been questioned, with reports of some players disregarding his on-field instructions. His form has also been inconsistent, affecting his ability to lead by example. Despite moments of brilliance, Ødegaard hasn’t consistently shown the authority and reliability expected from a captain.

On the other hand, players like Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus have displayed strong leadership qualities and a readiness to take responsibility. Rice has matured significantly and become a crucial part of Arsenal’s midfield, while Jesus has led by example with his work ethic and commitment.

Arteta should consider awarding the captaincy to a player who truly embodies the values he wishes to instill in the team. Bukayo Saka, for instance, has consistently shown maturity and a desire to learn, making him an excellent candidate. Saka’s rapid rise and dedication to the team position him as an ideal leader for Arsenal in the upcoming season.

By removing the captaincy from Ødegaard, Arteta can emphasize the high standards he expects from his players. It’s time for a new leader to step up and guide Arsenal toward success.

Nevertheless, Didier Drogba expects England international Declan Rice to flourish and sees him wearing the captain’s armband in the future:

“They’re the things that will be different for him that he will have to contend with, but I’ve got no doubt that he’ll have an impact at that football club over the years, and he’ll probably go on to be the captain of Arsenal at some point.”

Declan Rice has not only become the north Londoners’ club-record signing but also the most expensive British player in history. Mikel Arteta’s side were hellbent on luring him to the Emirates and have done so at a hefty fee.

However, the 24-year-old has become one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders. He’s defensively sound, accomplished on the ball and has added goals to his game. He managed five goals and four assists in 50 games across competitions last season

Rice’s leadership qualities are a massive plus, as he captained West Ham to UEFA Europa Conference League glory in his last season at West Ham. He’s also a mainstay in Gareth Southgate’s England national team, earning 43 caps.

Arsenal’s capture of Rice comes after a campaign that saw them challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title. However, Arteta’s side fell teo points short and lacked leaders in the closing stages of the campaign as their title challenge vanished.
