Arsenal already know the best candidate to replace Edu, they’ve already spoken to him

Arsenal’s search for a new sporting director is underway after Edu Gaspar resigned from his role.

The Gunners had built a solid structure behind the scenes at the club, and Edu was an integral part of everything that was going on.

His departure is a significant blow for Arsenal, but they are in a position where they can attract some of the biggest names in football to replace the Brazilian.

We have a suggestion for Arsenal owners Stan and Josh Kroenke.

Arsenal should appoint Luis Campos to replace Edu Gaspar

There aren’t many world-class sporting directors out of a job at the moment.

That complicates things for Arsenal as they look for Edu’s successor – they will have to pay compensation if they are to hire someone who is already working for another club.

That shouldn’t deter the Gunners away from elite candidates, especially one who can come in and potentially do an even better job than Edu.

We think Paris Saint-Germain’s strategic advisor Luis Campos is the man Arsenal should target.

The 60-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at PSG, and he has widely been regarded as one of the best in the business for a few years.

Campos and Arsenal were in talks over a role back in 2021, reported RMC Sport, but no move materialised in the end.

In 2023, RMC Sport revealed that Campos tried to get Mikel Arteta to leave Arsenal and become the manager of PSG, but that didn’t work out either.

Now, with Edu gone, we think the stars have aligned for Campos and Arteta to be united at Arsenal.

Five big stars Luis Campos has signed or developed

Campos has had a long and illustrious career in football.

The Portuguese started as a manager but then transitioned into a scout for Real Madrid. He then held jobs as a technical/sporting director at clubs like Monaco and Lille before becoming a strategic adviser.

Over the years, Campos has identified players like Fabinho, Bernardo Silva and Victor Osimhen. They have all had excellent careers.

Campos was also responsible for discovering Nicolas Pepe. He signed him for Lille, turned him into a star and then sold him to Arsenal for a mammoth fee.

The biggest name on Campos’ resume is Kylian Mbappe.

The French superstar was already at Monaco when Campos went there, but the now-60-year-old convinced him to stay and then promoted the forward from the youth setup to their B team.

Mbappe became a star after breaking into the first team, and the rest is history.
